What is a lota?

A lota, also known as a bodna or bodi, is a small vessel or container commonly used in South Asian countries to store and pour water. It is typically made of brass, copper, or stainless steel and has a rounded body with a narrow neck and a handle for easy carrying.

Lotas are often used in religious and cultural rituals, such as cleansing rituals in Hinduism or for performing ablutions in Islamic practices. They are also commonly used in households for personal hygiene purposes, such as during bathroom visits or for washing hands and feet.

In addition to their practical use, lotas are also considered decorative and are sometimes embellished with intricate designs or engravings. They are a traditional and familiar object in many South Asian households and are an integral part of daily routines and customs.
